Showtime now has sound

The live draw screen has sound. A chime as people enter, a build through the draw, and a hit as each winner lands.

Showtime is the screen you put a raffle on when you draw it in front of people. Until this week it was silent.

Now it is not.

As people enter, a short chime marks each new entry while your QR code is up. Enough to make a room look over, not enough to become a notification sound.

Through the draw, the names start slow enough to read, speed up until they blur, then slow down onto the winner. The ticking follows them the whole way. It is the sound of a prize wheel, and it does what a prize wheel does: it makes people stop talking.

As each winner lands, a hit. The final winner gets a bigger one.

At the recap, nothing. The screen everybody photographs stays quiet so you can talk over it.

Sound is on by default. There is a mute control in the corner of the stage, and the M key does the same thing during the show.

One thing worth doing before your first draw: the setup screen now has a Test sound button. Press it once and you will know whether your projector is actually carrying audio, which is a much better moment to find out than halfway through a countdown.

Run one yourself

Setting up a raffle takes about a minute. You get a link, a QR code and a printable flyer, and you can put the draw on a screen for the room to watch. Entering is always free.
